20 THINGS I LOVE TO DO IN MALLORCA, SPAIN

We lived on the island of Mallorca for a year. Needless to say, it was amazing. Our two sons attended a progressive school near Valdemossa and we spent our days enjoying the spectacular landscape surrounding our old stone farmhouse, and our our pool which was surrounded by olive and pomegranate trees. Seriously: olive and pomegranate trees! On weekends we walked the hills, met up with friends, swam in the Mediterranean and played on the beach. Here is a list of our favorite things to do in Mallorca.

1. Hike the old stone trails of the Serra de Tramuntana

2. Swim in the clear pebbled waters of Cala Tuent followed by lunch on the terrace of Es Vergeret

3. Spend a summer evening in the plaza of Alaro

4.Take a boat around wild Cap Formenter, swim in secret beach coves

5. Get lucky and stumble upon a colorful local festival

6. Enjoy dinner on the patio at Cafe Mandala in tiny Orient

7. Share tapas at one of the communal tables in Mercado Gastronomico San Juan in Palma

8. Stroll (or swim) along the crescent beach in Sóller to Can Ribes for Sunday lunch

9. Follow a trail to Finca Son Mico for beautiful views, fresh squeezed orange juice and just made cakes

10. Eat, drink, swim… join the party at the rickety seafood restaurant Ca’s Patró March on Cala Deià

11. Slurp arroz brut at Ca N’Antuna in the ever charming village of Fornalutz

12. Fill a basket at the Sunday farmers’ market in Santa Maria del Cami

13. Eat Mallorquin cuisine at Restaurante Eu Centro in Pollença (after a family walk up the steps)

14. Pick Sóller oranges in a friend’s orchard; her home is surrounded by more than 800 trees

15. Drive up near the castle of Alaro for a meal of lamb at Es Verger; a unique experience!

16. Leap from the rocks into the aquamarine waters of stunning Cala Mondrago

17. Sample the island’s best seafood tapas at Casa Manolo in Ses Salines

18. Lounge on the white sandy beaches of Port de Pollença while the kids play in the water

19. Sip cocktails amongst sailors and yachts at my friends’ restaurant in the harbor: The Boathouse

20. Take the back roads- always the back roads- which are especially cool in Mallorca
